A food-first itinerary, pulled straight from the full street food guide.
Yaowarat · Chinatown
The classics first
Pad Kra PaoPork Blood SoupFried Fish Balls
Start where locals actually eat: a lunch-spot plate of Pad Kra Pao with a fried egg on top, then into Yaowarat as the sun goes down for pork blood soup (better than it sounds) and a bag of fried fish balls to snack on while you walk.
Wang Lang & Or Tor Kor Markets
Markets & skewers
Moo PingSom TumPad Thai
Follow the smell of charcoal to a Moo Ping cart for grilled pork skewers with sticky rice, then a pounded Som Tum (ask for “pet nit noi” if you want less heat), finishing with an authentic Pad Thai from a proper noodle stall — not the tourist version.
Jodd Fairs & night markets
Underrated noodles & a sweet finish
Rad NaGreen CurryMango Sticky Rice
Rad Na doesn’t get the attention Pad Thai does, but it should — crispy noodles under a rich pork gravy. Round out the night with Green Curry at a shophouse stall, then finish the trip the way every trip should end: Mango Sticky Rice from a night market fruit stand.

The Founder

I’m Álvaro. I grew up in Cuba, studied psychology there, and later found my way into marketing and communications in Australia — a combination that turned out to matter more than I expected. Understanding people and knowing how to tell their stories are closer to the same skill than most people think.

I’ve spent years inside the travel industry since, and somewhere along the way, food became the thing that made it all make sense. Leading food tours taught me that a dish is never really just a dish. That’s the idea House of Routes is built on: food is the fastest route into a place, and travel is just how you get to the table.

Where to go this month

Ask Me Anything
The questions readers actually send us.
Are you a travel agency?
Nope. We’re an independent travel publication — we help you figure out where to go and what to do, but we don’t book anything for you.
Do you offer deals or discounts?
Some of our guides link to booking platforms like Booking.com where you can grab the best available rate. We only recommend places we’d actually send a friend.
Who writes the content?
Everything is written by Álvaro M Llerena — a real person who’s actually been there. No outsourced writers, no filler.
How do I use House of Routes to plan a trip?
Find your destination, then browse by Food, Stay, or Things to Do. Each guide is built on local research, so you’ll get specifics most travel sites skip.
Do you cover every destination?
Not yet — and that’s on purpose. We’d rather go deep on fewer places than cover everywhere badly. Right now: Europe, Cuba, and Southeast Asia.
