You are in the back of a car on a Friday night, somewhere on the 35km of road between Canggu and Uluwatu, watching the arrival time on the driver’s phone creep later. Rome2rio’s planner promised 38 minutes. The reviewer at Best Beach Clubs Bali, less romantic, tells readers to allow extra time for heavy traffic on this run. Then the bigger problem lands: Single Fin, the clifftop bar you were aiming for, closes at 10pm on Fridays. Its late nights are Wednesday and Sunday.
That ride explains Bali nightlife better than any list of venues. The island’s three party areas share one crowded stretch of coast and keep the habits of separate towns. Canggu drinks in bars you can walk between, Seminyak dresses up and goes clubbing, and Uluwatu watches the sun set from a cliff and is mostly in bed by eleven. What follows takes them in turn, with what the big beach clubs charge and who owns them. Choose your base first; our guide to where to stay in Bali helps with the bed.

Know this first: Bali nightlife is three scenes with a traffic jam between them
Choose the night before you choose the hotel. Canggu’s bars, Seminyak’s clubs and Uluwatu’s clifftops keep different hours on different days, and moving between them after dark costs more time than the map suggests. Single Fin shuts at 10pm five nights a week. La Favela’s club floor opens only from Thursday to Saturday. FINNS, the biggest name in Canggu, stops at midnight by its own posted hours, which makes a beach club a sunset plan with a pool attached and leaves the small hours to the bars. For how these hours compare with Bangkok’s or Saigon’s, see our round-up of the best nightlife in Southeast Asia.
The second thing to know is whose party it is. The sand in front of every beach club is public. In November 2025 Governor Wayan Koster sent Bali’s lawmakers a bylaw to stop hotels and clubs behaving, in his words, ‘as if they own the beach and the sea’.
The clubs behind the sand are mostly owned a long way from it: FINNS names a parent company with a Singapore office, and Atlas belongs to an Indonesian bar chain that has talked about a stock-market listing. In July 2025 the same governor had some 40 unlicensed businesses on the cliff at Bingin Beach demolished, ABC News reported, and promised an audit of tourism licences across the island. On this coast, permits decide who stays open, and the list of venues can change faster than the guidebooks.
| Area | The night it does best | Big nights | When it stops | Base yourself here if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canggu | Bar-hopping around Batu Bolong; beach clubs in Berawa | Every night; Wednesday at Old Man’s is the loudest | Bars run late; FINNS closes at midnight | You want to go out most nights without planning |
| Seminyak | Sunset cocktails, a sit-down dinner, then a club | Thursday to Saturday | Potato Head at midnight or 2am; clubs from 10pm until late | You want one or two dressed-up nights and good restaurants |
| Uluwatu | Clifftop sunsets and one big-ticket DJ night | Wednesday and Sunday at Single Fin; Friday to Sunday at Savaya | 10pm on most nights | You are here to surf and want two nights out a week |
Canggu nightlife is a bar crawl around Batu Bolong, and it runs every night
Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong runs from Canggu’s cafés down to the sand, and most of the area’s drinking happens along it or on Batu Mejan, the next road west. Old Man’s sits at the beach end. It opens at noon every day, and its own programme gives each night a name, from The Residency on Monday to Dirty Disco on Sunday.
Louise, who edits Honeycombers’ list of Canggu bars, describes a surf bar with a beer garden and bands on a beachside stage, where Dirty Ol’ Wednesday adds beer pong and dancing on tables. Cocktails start at IDR 110,000 (about $6). Luigi’s Hot Pizza, on Batu Mejan, owns Mondays: Metto Monday, run with the PNNY music collective, starts at 6pm by the venue’s listing. Down on the beach, she writes, Sand Bar lights bonfires and only gets going after midnight.
My order would be Old Man’s for the sunset happy hour, pizza at Luigi’s while the DJs warm up, then the sand once the bars thin out. All three are close enough that the night needs no scooter, which matters on this island. Luigi’s adds a second party, Circa Friday, from 8pm at the end of the week. Wednesday is the night to start at Old Man’s and stay.
People live here. More than 7,000 signed a petition in 2022 against music running until 4am near a temple, and in October 2026 residents were pressing Badung regency again over a Canggu club advertising 4am finishes. Renting near Batu Bolong, ask about noise before paying.
North Kuta police have run night patrols through Batu Bolong’s venues since October 2025, The Bali Sun reported, walking the bars while they trade. The British Foreign Office adds that officers often raid places popular with foreigners and that a positive drug test alone can lead to arrest.

Canggu beach clubs: walk into FINNS for free before you pay Atlas at the gate
Two of the island’s largest beach clubs share one road in Berawa, the next beach along from Batu Bolong. FINNS counts 19 pools, 14 bars and 170 metres of beachfront on its website, admits adults only and opens from 11am to midnight. Atlas Beach Fest, at Jalan Pantai Berawa 88, bills itself as the biggest beach club in the world; Bloomberg measured the site at three hectares.
Ownership tells you what each place is for. FINNS’s site credits FINNS Global Limited, with an office on Clemenceau Avenue in Singapore, and Honeycombers describes pool parties and DJs there every day. Atlas is part of Holywings Group, an Indonesian chain whose founders told Bloomberg in October 2024 that it drew about 60,000 customers a month and up to 10,000 on a holiday. It opened in July 2022 under a fresh name, Coconuts Bali reported, weeks after a Holywings drinks promotion built on the names Muhammad and Maria caused national outrage. The lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea is a shareholder.
Walk into FINNS. Entry is free and its help pages say there is no minimum spend, only a booking fee for a bed; Honeycombers puts premium seating from IDR 2.5 million (about $140). Booking online and arriving before 1pm can halve that. Atlas sells a day pass at IDR 300,000 (about $17) covering one drink, the pool and a towel. I’d reach FINNS at 4pm, stand at a bar and leave after dark.
Neither is a nightclub. Once FINNS shuts, anyone still going moves to Vault on the same road, which Honeycombers lists from 10pm on Mondays and from Wednesday to Saturday. Atlas admits guests from 16, and I’d read that as a hint about the crowd.

Seminyak nightlife starts at sunset, and Potato Head is the beach club to pay for
The evening in Seminyak, the older and smarter resort south of Canggu, begins on the sand. Potato Head Beach Club, inside the Desa Potato Head complex on Jalan Petitenget, opens from 10am to midnight and until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. KU DE TA, on Jalan Kayu Aya, has been selling sunsets for what it calls over two decades and opens daily at 8am.
Potato Head’s own page promises resident DJs every day playing Balearic, disco and house beside an infinity pool, and the site carries a 2026 B Corp badge for a property it describes as a zero-waste creative village. Its footer credits PT Tiga Rasa, a company registered in Indonesia. Honeycombers’ beach club guide files KU DE TA as family-friendly by day with a steakhouse attached, and the club’s current offers include half-price magnums of rosé on Thursdays.
Timing is the trick at Potato Head. Entry is free and walk-in seats carry no minimum spend, except between 4pm and 6.30pm, when a cover of IDR 200,000 (about $11) applies and comes back as drinks. Arrive at 3.30pm, or accept the cover as a deposit on your first round. KU DE TA has no door charge either; a daybed booking was IDR 2 million plus tax and service on Honeycombers’ 2026 list.
You are paying resort prices for a view the public beach in front gives away. I think Potato Head earns it, for the music and the effort on waste. KU DE TA’s daybed I’d leave to people on expenses.
Potato Head’s 2am close on Fridays and Saturdays makes it the one beach club here that outlasts midnight. On a night when Klymax, the club in the same complex, has an event listed, you can go from sunset to dinner to a dance floor without getting back in a car.
- Best for
- Sunset with resident DJs and no table booking
- When
- Be seated before 4pm to avoid the cover
- Where
- Jl Petitenget 51B

After midnight, the Seminyak clubs beat anything in Canggu
Seminyak’s clubs line Jalan Petitenget and Jalan Laksamana Oberoi, which La Favela’s own site calls the party street. La Favela, founded there in 2012, is the best known. A restaurant called Rocinha serves dinner from 7pm to 11pm, and the nightclub floor opens from Thursday to Saturday, 10pm until late. Klymax Discotheque is the newer room, inside Desa Potato Head.
Vici, who compiles Honeycombers’ Bali nightlife list, describes La Favela as jungle planting, antique furniture and a Volkswagen van parked indoors, with shared plates before the dancing starts. Mirror, on Petitenget, she likens to a gothic church: mosaic glass, chandeliers, lasers and EDM from Wednesday to Sunday. Klymax makes the opposite pitch. Its site describes an underground club created in partnership with DJ Harvey around the sound system, where flash photography, video, smoking and vaping are all banned.
Pick by music. I’d send anyone who cares who is playing to Klymax: check its listings, buy through Megatix and turn up after the 10pm opening. La Favela suits a group that wants dinner and dancing in one building, so book Rocinha for 9pm and climb to the third floor afterwards. Between venues, book a car by app and check the driver matches it, as the Foreign Office advises.
Listings disagree. Honeycombers has La Favela open daily from 7pm, while the venue limits the club itself to three nights, and I’d go by the venue. The Foreign Office also reports drink spiking linked to sexual assault in Bali and says to refuse drinks from strangers in clubs.

- Groups who want to eat and dance at one address
- When
- Club nights Thursday, Friday and Saturday; dinner nightly

Uluwatu nightlife is two nights a week, and both are at Single Fin
The surf coast of the Bukit peninsula, at Bali’s southern tip, hangs its social life off one road, Jalan Labuan Sait. Single Fin sits at the end of it, on the cliff above Suluban Beach. It opens at 8am daily and closes at 10pm, an hour later on Saturdays. The exceptions are Wednesday and Sunday, when it runs to 2am.
Honeycombers’ editors call it ‘more bar than beach club’, and their nightlife writer describes a restaurant, bar and club in one, serving pizzas and cocktails by the jug to a surf crowd, with bands, DJs and the Sunday Sessions as the main event. Little Bingin, a guesthouse nearby that keeps a nightlife guide, adds that DJs start around 4pm daily and that there was no door charge in December 2025, though parking and pool beds cost extra. The same group runs The Lawn in Canggu.
Go on a Sunday, with Wednesday as second choice, and be seated before sunset; tables can be reserved through the venue’s site and cards are accepted. When the crowd leaves, Hatch is further along the same road at number 54. By its own timetable it opens from 5pm to 3am, Monday to Saturday, with a different theme each night and markets at weekends.
On the other five nights Uluwatu goes to bed early, which is why some people choose it. The cliffs are contested ground too. Bingin, where the governor said of the demolished buildings that ‘none of them have permits’, is on this same stretch of coast.
- Best for
- Sunday sunset that turns into a party
- When
- Late on two nights only; arrive well before sundown
- Where
- Jl Labuan Sait, Pecatu
- Best for
- Somewhere to go once the cliff bar empties
- When
- Evenings into the small hours; Sunday hours differ

- Jl Labuansait 54, Pecatu
Savaya is the one big club night in Uluwatu, and it is priced like it
A 2,500-capacity club on a cliff about 100 metres above the Indian Ocean, Savaya is roughly 20 minutes from Uluwatu’s beaches by Little Bingin’s reckoning. DJ Mag ranked it fifth in its Top 100 Clubs for 2026 and first in Asia for a third year. It opens daily, until 10pm from Monday to Thursday and until close from Friday to Sunday.
The calendar is the draw: the club’s listings for late 2026 include Damian Lazarus on 21 November, Vintage Culture on 19 December and Carl Cox on New Year’s Eve. Veronica, the reviewer at Best Beach Clubs Bali, was less impressed by daylight. She found piped music until sunset, small pools that fill fast and DJs who were very good once they started, and she noted that the cliff faces south, so this is no sunset spot. Her score was 51 out of 100.
Buy a ticket for a named night. Veronica recorded entry between IDR 150,000 and 600,000 (roughly $8 to $34) plus tax and service, highest on weekend event nights, and a minimum spend of IDR 3 million (about $168) for a decent seat. I’d pay the door price, stand and skip the table. Her best advice concerns leaving: ‘order your ride in the club’, because drivers are scarce outside.
It is a long way from everywhere. From Canggu, that 35km run makes Savaya a stay-in-Uluwatu night, or a job for a hired driver who waits. Guests must be over 21, outside food and drink is binned at security, and the kitchen drew her sharpest complaints.
New Year is Savaya’s peak. DJ Mag notes that last season’s New Year’s Week ran from 27 December to 4 January with Fatboy Slim among the bookings. If your dates overlap, buy tickets before flights and assume door prices sit at the top of the range.
- Best for
- One headline DJ night, bought in advance
- When
- Friday to Sunday for the late parties
- Where
- Jl Belimbing Sari, Banjar Tambiyak
Where to eat on a Bali night out: the dinner that turns into the party
In all three areas the first venue of the night is often a restaurant with a DJ booth. Motel Mexicola, a Mexican cantina on Jalan Kayu Jati in Petitenget, opens daily at 11am and now lists branches in Canggu and Uluwatu. Da Maria, an Italian on Jalan Petitenget, opens at 5pm. Luigi’s Hot Pizza does the same job in Canggu.
Honeycombers’ nightlife list describes Mexicola as neon, murals and 1960s Acapulco styling, where tacos and tequila give way to dancing on the tables, and Da Maria as pasta, pizza and spritzes in a room dressed like the Capri coast, with DJs and a disco floor on Wednesdays and Sundays. None of this is Balinese cooking, and nobody involved pretends otherwise. For babi guling, sate lilit and the warungs that serve them, eat earlier and use our guide to what to eat in Bali.
Eat a full meal before the first cocktail. The Foreign Office warns that spirit measures in Indonesian bars are larger than British ones, and a taco is thin protection. I’d book Da Maria on a Wednesday or a Sunday and stay put, or take a group to Mexicola for an early table, before the room becomes the fiesta that list describes.
Mexicola’s party has a rough edge. A fight there on 1 October 2026, involving two Australians and the venue’s security, was still being checked by Badung police days later, Bali Discovery reported. When the next table orders its fourth round of margaritas, move on.
- Best for
- Groups: tacos first, tequila later
- When
- Daily from 11am; reserve dinner in advance
- Where
- Jl Kayu Jati 9X
The rules that catch visitors out on a night out in Bali
Indonesian drug law is the one that ends holidays. The British Foreign Office says possession, use or trafficking can bring long prison sentences or the death penalty, that cannabis products including CBD are illegal in any form, and that police often raid venues popular with foreigners in Bali. Nicotine vapes are legal but increasingly treated like cigarettes: a health ministry regulation scheduled to apply from July 2026 bars under-21s from vaping and bans it in smoke-free areas. Some clubs, Klymax among them, forbid it outright.
Drinks are the other risk. British and US government advice both warn of methanol poisoning from drinks sold in licensed venues in tourist areas, and Australia’s Smartraveller says a single shot can kill. I’d keep to sealed beer, and to cocktails made in front of you at the busy places. The revised criminal code penalises sex outside marriage, but only on a complaint from a spouse, parent or child. Foreign visitors also owe a Bali levy of IDR 150,000 (about $8).
Three nights, three areas: the order I’d do them in
With three nights to spend, I’d sleep in Canggu and treat the other two areas as excursions. Wednesday goes to Batu Bolong: Old Man’s on its loudest night, then the beach. Friday is Seminyak, with Potato Head before the 4pm cover, dinner, and Klymax or La Favela from 10pm. Sunday is Uluwatu, leaving Canggu by early afternoon to reach Single Fin well ahead of sunset, with a driver booked for the ride home. If a DJ you love is at Savaya, swap it in for the Sunday and stay the night nearby. A full week leaves room for rest days, which our list of things to do in Bali will fill.
| Place | Area | What it is | Cost to get in | Best night |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Old Man’s | Canggu | Beachfront surf bar | Free; cocktails from IDR 110,000 | Wednesday |
| Luigi’s Hot Pizza | Canggu | Pizza garden with DJs | No door charge listed | Monday |
| FINNS Beach Club | Berawa, Canggu | Adults-only mega beach club | Free entry; beds extra | Any day, for sunset |
| Atlas Beach Fest | Berawa, Canggu | Three-hectare beach club | IDR 300,000 day pass | Any afternoon |
| Potato Head Beach Club | Seminyak | Beach club with resident DJs | Free; IDR 200,000 cover 4pm to 6.30pm | Friday or Saturday |
| KU DE TA | Seminyak | Beach club and restaurant | Free; daybeds from IDR 2 million | Any sunset |
| La Favela | Seminyak | Restaurant with a third-floor club | Not listed; ask when booking | Thursday to Saturday |
| Klymax Discotheque | Seminyak | Underground sound-system club | Ticketed; price varies by night | Listed event nights |
| Single Fin | Uluwatu | Clifftop surf bar | No door charge reported | Sunday, then Wednesday |
| Hatch | Uluwatu | Restaurant, bar and late club | Tickets for some events | Monday to Saturday |
| Savaya | Uluwatu | 2,500-capacity clifftop club | IDR 150,000 to 600,000, plus tax | Friday to Sunday |
| Motel Mexicola | Seminyak | Mexican cantina and dance floor | No door charge listed | Any night, early |
Rp means no door charge and cocktails from about IDR 110,000 ($6). RpRp means a cover or day pass of up to IDR 300,000 ($17), or beach-club drink prices. RpRpRp means entry of up to IDR 600,000 ($34) or bookings from IDR 2 million ($112). Figures come from the venues’ own sites and from 2025 and 2026 reviews; tax and service are usually added on top.
Bali nightlife practicalities: season, transport, money and safety
When to go: May to October is the dry half of the year. This season the rain is late: Indonesia’s weather agency forecast in late September that El Niño would delay the wet season until December across about 85% of the island, with roughly four months of concentrated rain to April 2027. Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, falls in early March 2027 and closes every bar and the airport for 24 hours. Our month-by-month guide to Southeast Asia has the wider calendar.
Getting around: Book cars through a ride-hailing app, check the driver matches the booking and share the trip, as the Foreign Office advises; Bluebird is among the taxi firms it names. Do not ride a scooter home. The same page reports a large increase in moped accidents in Bali, some fatal, and says a UK licence alone is not valid there without an international driving permit.
Money: Budget at about IDR 17,900 to the US dollar, Wise’s mid-market rate on 11 October 2026. Prices written with ++ have tax and service added at the till. Savaya’s reviewer found no QRIS or e-wallet option there, so carry a card.
Booking: Buy Savaya and Klymax tickets online. Reserve FINNS beds through its own booking site and Single Fin tables through its reservations link. Old Man’s takes walk-ins, as does Potato Head outside the cover window.
How long: Three nights covers one evening in each area. Add a fourth only for a Savaya line-up.
Safety: The US State Department keeps Indonesia at Level 2, issued on 7 July 2026, with its do-not-travel warnings confined to two Papuan provinces; the Foreign Office’s safety page was updated on 18 September 2026. Both name Bali for drink spiking. Watch drinks being poured, keep to busy licensed venues and leave with the people you came with.
Bali nightlife: questions people ask
Which area of Bali has the best nightlife?
Canggu, for most visitors, because something is on every night and the main bars sit close together around Batu Bolong. Seminyak is stronger after midnight, with clubs such as La Favela open from Thursday to Saturday. Uluwatu has the clifftop sunsets and the fewest late nights: Single Fin runs to 2am only on Wednesdays and Sundays.
What time do bars and clubs close in Bali?
Venues set their own hours, so check each one. FINNS closes at midnight and Potato Head at midnight or 2am. Single Fin shuts at 10pm on most nights, while Hatch in Uluwatu lists 3am. Bali Discovery reports that amplified music is generally meant to drop by 1am under a 70-decibel limit, and that enforcement is selective.
How much does a night out in Bali cost?
Plan on IDR 110,000 to 150,000 (about $6 to $8) a cocktail in Canggu’s bars, on Honeycombers’ 2026 prices. Atlas’s day pass is IDR 300,000 and Potato Head’s sunset cover IDR 200,000, redeemable against drinks. Savaya’s entry has ranged from IDR 150,000 to 600,000, and tables at the big clubs start at IDR 2 million to 3 million.
Do Bali beach clubs charge an entry fee?
Some do. FINNS is free to enter and says it has no minimum spend, charging a booking fee for beds instead. Potato Head is free except between 4pm and 6.30pm, when a IDR 200,000 cover is redeemable for drinks. Atlas sells a IDR 300,000 day pass with one drink included, and Savaya charges entry on most days.
Is Bali nightlife safe?
Mostly, with three risks worth taking seriously. British, American and Australian government advice all warns of methanol in drinks, and of drink spiking in Bali’s bars and clubs. Drug laws carry long prison sentences, and police raid venues used by foreigners. The third risk is the road home: book a car and leave the scooter where it is.
Can you vape or use cannabis in Bali?
Cannabis, no: every form is illegal in Indonesia, including CBD and cannabis vapes, and the penalties are severe. Nicotine vapes are legal for adults, though a regulation scheduled for July 2026 sets a minimum age of 21 and bans vaping in smoke-free areas. Individual clubs can be stricter, and Klymax prohibits smoking and vaping inside.
The Bottom Line
Canggu is where I’d base a first trip built around going out, because it is the only one of the three where a night can be improvised on foot. Seminyak is the better answer for anyone who wants a proper club and a proper dinner, and it charges more for both. Uluwatu is a place to surf and sleep that throws two good parties a week and one very expensive one. The beach clubs are worth a sunset each, at most, and the sand in front of them costs nothing. Whichever you choose, the mistake is trying to do all three from one hotel.
Check the venue’s closing time before you get in the car.
